Arsenal’s Premier League hopes and England’s World Cup hopes both took a big hit on Monday.

The Gunners confirmed that Theo Walcott will miss at least six months with a torn ACL in his left knee, an injury suffered during Arsenal’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over rival Tottenham on Saturday. The team said in a statement:

Theo will have surgery in London in the near future and is expected to be out for at least six months, therefore missing the remainder of the season and the World Cup in Brazil in the summer.

Walcott, who was cleared by the FA of any wrongdoing after mocking Tottenham fans as he was being stretchered off Saturday, had five league goals and one Champions League goal for league-leading Arsenal after missing two months earlier in the season. The club will faces the daunting prospect of having to play Bayern Munich in the Champions league round of 16 without him.

The 24-year-old speedster was expected to play a vital role in England’s World Cup effort as well, and the Three Lions must combat the likes of Uruguay, Italy and Costa Rica in Group B without Walcott’s services.

England aren't good at the moment, so I guess it doesn't matter.  But really, a tough guy to lose.  Only 2-3 I can think if that would've been worse, even if it speaks more to the lack of elite talent than anything else.

Arsenal have to spend and they won't.  No need to dust off the trophy case.  Just lock it up and throw the key in the draw for another year.

Six months. That's about 2-0 weeks, right? You know what they say about karma, Theo. HA!

Arsenal will miss him dearly; but let's be honest, England has little hope of advancing out of the group stage anyways.

Not surprised the FA cleared him.  As much as love my Spurs, we have way, WAY too many hooligans, thugs, racists and idiots in the stands.

England's chances in the World Cup, with or without Walcott, are about the same as that of the US. Make of that what you will. Arsenal, alas, takes a very big hit. Unless they can make a big splash in the transfer period I see their EPL title chances shot down.

Good player. Now Wenger will have his excuse when the Gunners tank late.
