Lionel Messi scores twice for Barcelona in return from injury

A little rest did Lionel Messi a whole lot of good.

Messi, in his return to action for the first time since Nov. 10 after dealing with a hamstring injury, scored twice in the late stages of Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Getafe in the first leg of their Copa del Rey round of 16 tie on Wednesday.

Used as a reserve, Messi came on in the 64th minute, with Barca already leading 2-0 on the strength of two Cesc Fabregas goals. Messi, who is a finalist to win what would be his fifth consecutive Ballon d’Or next week (Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery are the other finalists), closed the door on the match, and likely the series, in the 90th minute and in stoppage time with his double.
