MLS adds top prospect Dean, two more to Generation adidas class
Central defender Christian Dean, widely considered to be one of the top professional prospects in college soccer, was one of three players to join the 2014 Generation adidas class ahead of this weekend’s MLS Combine and next week’s MLS SuperDraft, the league announced on Wednesday.
Dean, who just completed his junior season at the University of California, is joined by a pair of other defenders, Wisconsin’s AJ Cochran and Hartford’s Damion Lowe, bringing the count to seven players.
Connecticut goalkeeper Andre Blake, Maryland forward Schillo Tshuma, Creighton defender Eric Miller and Louisville midfielder Marlon Hairston are the other GA signings, whose salaries won’t count against their drafting teams’ caps until they graduate from the program.
They are joined in the draft pool by a pair of senior forwards already signed to MLS deals, Maryland’s Patrick Mullins and Georgetown’s Steve Neumann.
Scouts and coaches will gain a better handle on this year’s draft class later this week, with the MLS Combine kicking off Friday in Florida in the lead up to next Thursday’s SuperDraft in Philadelphia. A pair of players who excelled at last week’s inaugural Caribbean player combine, Curacao’s Quinton C.E. Christina and Suriname’s Stefano Rjssel, will join the growing list of seniors and GA players aiming to improve their draft stock this weekend in Florida.
