Zlatan Ibrahimovic was left out of the Ballon d’Or discussion after coming up short of the final three, but he didn’t leave Monday’s gala in Zurich emptyhanded.

Ibrahimovic won the FIFA Puskas Award (goal of the year) for his incredible overhead kick against England. The goal occurred in 2012, but the time frame for the Puskas nominees lasted from November 2012 through October 2013.

Ibrahimovic outlasted Nemanja Matic and Neymar, whose efforts, while sensational in their own right, paled in comparison to Ibrahimovic’s goal for Sweden. With Joe Hart off his line after a horrendous clearance and the ball headed airborne away from the England goal, Ibrahimovic reacted instinctively, tracking the ball and launching a flying bicycle kick from some 30 yards.

Video of Ibrahimovic’s award-winning goal — and impeccable broadcast call — is below (because, let’s be honest, watching it never gets old):

Still amazing after all these months.  Also amazing that a video clip of futbol here on SI actually works!

Despite the incredible nature of this goal, his Scorpion Kick goal vs. Anderlecht is by FAR much more skillful and impressive, all things considered, imho.
