Cruz Azul’s Marco Fabian adds to personal highlight reel with For The Win golazo
Marco Fabian is one of Mexico’s more inventive, dynamic attacking talents, and his latest effort for Cruz Azul not only kept the club in sole possession of first place in Liga MX, but did so in breathtaking fashion.
Fabian’s heroics Saturday night lifted Cruz Azul to a 1-0 win over Puebla (the club of U.S. defender DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal), helping the undefeated club maintain its three-point buffer over Toluca seven games into the Liga MX Clausura. With seconds remaining in second half stoppage time, Fabian cleanly settled a ball at the top of the area, took two touches and chipped into the far upper 90 while falling down to break the deadlock.
Fabian is the same player who turned in this overhead kick on Barcelona while playing for Chivas Guadalajara in the World Football Challenge two summers ago, and his penchant for the spectacular makes him a dangerous variable.
After enduring some underwhelming times while expectations were at their highest, Fabian has begun to round into form in his first season at Cruz Azul and trails Pumas’ Martin Bravo by two goals for the league’s scoring lead. MLS Cup champion Sporting Kansas City is undoubtedly taking notes, with the clubs set to square off in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League next month.
