Report: Eric Berry likely to sit out through most of preseason
Thursday July 28th, 2016

Chiefs safety Eric Berry is not likely to report to the team until the end of the preseason, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports

Berry was franchise-tagged but failed to sign a long-term extension before the July 15 deadline. Because he has not signed his franchise tender, Berry can skip training camp and preseason games without being fined.

The tag is a one-year deal for $10.8 million.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters Tuesday that he was unsure whether Berry would be with the team at camp.

“First of all, we love Eric Berry, he’s a huge part of this football team,” Reid said, according to the Kansas City Star. “Whether he’s here or not, I can’t answer that. I know there’s a report out there that he’s not gonna be here.”

Berry, 27, has played his entire six-year career with the Chiefs. He was named Comeback Player of the Year last season after being named to the Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro after recovering from cancer.
